It All Comes Down to the Wire

Each load cell or weigh bar in your scale system sends electrical signals to your indicator through hardwired cables. In some cases, each load cell is plugged directly into the indicator. In others, each one is connected to a junction bank or box, then routed to your indicator through a single cable. When replacing a cable – or any load cells and weigh bars – we’ll work with you to determine which connector type is compatible with your system. Sometimes a simple upgrade now can save a lot of headache down the road. We’ll help you determine if it’s a good time to make some changes to your setup, such as converting your bare wire connections to a DT6 junction bank.

What to consider when replacing a cable or junction bank

Compatibility

Each load cell or weigh bar features one of several connection types. Your indicator might also accept only one connection type. Before purchasing, make sure all connection types are compatible with your scale’s components.

Durability

Your scale system is only as durable as its weakest link. Bare wire connections, and damaged or weathered junction boxes are common trouble areas. When possible, we recommend routing all connections through the DT6 junction bank, which comes standard with all of our scale kits.

Service and Repair

Spoiler alert: we’re going to talk about the DT6 junction bank again. Eventually, load cells or weigh bars wear down and stop working properly. Sometimes a cable gets pinched or damaged. A junction bank simplifies the process of diagnosing problems with your scale system by allowing simple connection and disconnection of the cables all in one place. The DT6 junction bank features water tight connections, high resistance to corrosion and gold plated pins for superior connection and protection from the elements.

Finding the Right Part

If you need to replace a damaged cable or are interested in upgrading your system to a DT6 junction bank, our experienced staff will ask you for a few details about your equipment in order to get you what you need. Here’s some helpful information to have available when you speak with a representative or fill out the Request A Quote form online:

Did you purchase your scale system from us?

If so, we can simply pull up your account information and find a replacement part to match your order.

If not, no problem!

We’ll ask you a few questions in order to find the right part. If you are able to provide the information below, it will speed up the process of determining what part(s) will fit the best.

Part Number

If you can find a part number on the cable you need to replace, we’ll take it from there and provide available options.

Connector Type & Cable Length

If you do not have a part number, we will ask about the connection style at the ends of the cable. How many pins does the connector have? Is the other end bare wires, or does it also have a connector? How long is the cable?

Indicator Make and Model

We can also use your indicator’s make and model information to help determine which cables and connections fit your scale system (i.e. Scale-Tec POINT or Digi-Star GT560).
